Clinical Story of "Jon"

This is just one example of a client I personally worked with.  When I first started therapy he was 2 years and 9 months old.  He did not have a formal diagnosis of autism due to his age, but his doctor, parents and therapists categorized him as having severe autism.  Because he was not walking at this point, and had very low muscle tone, he was also diagnosed by his doctor with cerebral palsy.  This adorable little boy had very little eye contact, not eating, not sleeping through the night, only made noises for communication, not walking (but could stand), had a very limited diet, was always constipated, and had behavioral issues.  He was not able to lay on his back because it was uncomfortable, and his toes and fingers were extremely ticklish.  His occupational therapist, physical therapists, and speech therapist had been working with him for many months.  His Mom stated he had very little improvement thus far from the other therapies.  Jon's parents were very excited to try QST.

When we began therapy, Jon had blocks in his ears/head, and noticeably in his chest.  When using movement 7 he would hum for about 1 minute straight, sometimes longer during the first several visits with him.  At the end of the humming he would do a cute little increase in tone.  It was a very blunt sign he was done needing that movement.  He was uncomfortable with the tapping on his ears and extremely ticklish with fingers and toes.  After the first week of treatment his parents were delighted to tell me he was sleeping through the night and started normal bowel movements!  As the weeks went on his chest blocks opened up and he was no longer humming as much.  His fingers and toes started filling which led to wonderful speech improvements.  By the end of the first month he was starting to talk and for the first time said, "Love you mommy".  It was his first sentence according to his Mom.  His appetite also improved and he started eating more.  His muscle tone improved and behavior issues improved.

By the end of the second month, Jon would repeat simple sentences, started to take his first steps, ate everything put on his plate, and had improved his eye contact by about 50%.  His doctor couldn't believe his eyes.  Told his parents, "Whatever you're doing keep doing it!"  After the end of our three months together, Jon was not only walking, but starting to play tag with me and learning to run.  He was saying 5 word sentences on his own.  His eye contact was about 90% normal (No formal tests conducted.  This is based on my own estimation), was fully aware of his surroundings, was able to lay on his back and relax without any issues, and grew like crazy from the last time I had seen him.  This was an absolute miracle that happened before my own eyes.  His doctor told his parents, "I don't know what he has if anything.  He doesn't qualify for the diagnoses of cerebral palsy or autism anymore."

Children like Jon are improving like this everyday from QST.  Find an authorized QST therapist in your area through QSTI.org or contact me for virtual sessions.  I'm here to spread the word about this amazing, safe therapy.  Feel free to contact me with questions.
